Louis XIIIexternal image King_Louis_XIII.jpg
Louis XIII was king of France from 1610 to 1643
He was Roman Catholic.
He inherited the throne from his father.
He was weak, but he got help by appointing a strong minister, Cardinal Richelieu. Richelieu increased the power of monarch in France. He did not let Protestant kingdoms have walls, so they did not have anything to hide behind. Richelieu also weakened the power of the nobles; instead he gave power to agents who got information from the middle class. Richelieu got France into the thirty year war, because of his dream to be the strongest country in Europe.
While Louis was ruling there was also dispute between the different religions. He favored Roman Catholic by supporting different missionaries. Louis seemed to be against the Huguenots. He would not let them rebuild or fix anything that was damaged in the war; Louis did not let them have any chance to get involved with the government. The dispute between the different religions leaded to the French Wars of Religion.
He had a negative impact, because Louis was not very strong and had them getting into several wars.
He is most known for getting help from Cardinal Richelieu.
